Causes of phobias

A range of biological and environmental factors contributes to the development and maintenance of anxiety disorders. (avoiding things that one is scared of, negative life experiences) (Connolly, Simpson, and Petty 53).
Their experiments have shown that the causes of phobias are complex and often not well defined. The many theories are grouped into five categories: psychological, learned or conditioned, biological/chemical, cultural, and mixture.
1. “phobias arise when people ignore unresolved problems and conflicts.”
2. “certain people develop phobias because of their body chemistry.”
3. “people learn fear through direct experience”
4. “culture as the cause of phobias..way people live, as well as the people, customs, and beliefs they grow up learning about cause certain people to develop phobias.”
5. “Most likely, all phobias develop from a mixture of causes.”

This is an article about cases of Social Phobia:
Approximately 60% of people with social phobia experience other troubling disorders, such as depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder, and are at greater risk of experiencing suicidal ideation and suicide attempts.

Furthermore, despite the fact that those with social phobia report that it significantly interferes with their lives, less than 20% seek professional help and only approximately 6% reported having used medications to treat their disorder. Symptoms can include trembling, twitching, dizziness, rapid heart rate, feeling faint, difficulty speaking or swallowing, and sweating.
